folk clubs

| Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn, NE Wales
Andy Hickie and Neal Thompson of Mountain Music are pleased to announce a new folk club held in traditional style at the Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 9pm. Entry is free.
Folk music as it is now understood is a popular music form of the traditional songs carried down the centuries. Where folk music came from the use of acoustic guitars applied to traditional song, the original songs come from communal or solo singing, reed instruments, fiddles, whistles, pipes and skin drums. Many musicians carry on this founding form of folk music using the old songs and instruments, exploring our communal history and stories which we called `traditional folk`.
Thanks to Woven Wheat Whispers for this definition.
While there are no hard and fast rules the folk music at the Blue Bell Inn follows the style described above in general and focuses on Celtic / British folk in particular. Contact details Steve@BlueBell.uk.eu.org

hold acoustic open sessions every Tuesday from 8.30pm downstairs at the Bay Hotel, Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth, open to all who want to come and sing, play or listen. There is generally a wide variety of music ranging from traditional folk songs and tunes to contemporary material and people`s own original songs. The sessions offer a great opportunity for amateur musicians and singers to perform and share their music with others. It`s also a great way of meeting other people with similar interests, and this has resulted in a great many duos and groups being formed over the years the sessions have been running.
People just coming to listen are as welcome as musical contributors and, on average, the numbers of audience and performers are roughly equal. The sessions attract a wide variety of people including local residents, students, holidaymakers and visitors from abroad, and ages ranging from teenagers to pensioners. There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and always a warm welcome to newcomers. Contact details Ian Gulley
