| Fishguard Folk Festival May Fishguard`s annual celebration of folk music, song and dance takes place over the late Spring Bank Holiday weekend in the historic seaport town of Fishguard, with concerts, dance displays, `meet the artist` events, busking, informal music and song sessions and a real ale bar.
Over the past ten years the seaport town of Fishguard has been host to this friendly small traditional music festival. Also featuring is the ever-popular guided `Pirate and Smugglers` walk. Snowdon Fiddle Festival June Music lovers take note! In June the hills will be alive to the sound of fiddle playing as the Snowdon Fiddle Festival returns to Nant Peris in Gwynedd.
The Snowdon Fiddle Festival started as an offshoot of the local fiddle club Clwb Ffidil yr Wyddfa. The aim was to raise the profile of traditional fiddle playing in the area, give Welsh fiddle music some well deserved exposure and to provide a chance to hear and learn from the foremost exponents of fiddle playing from further afield. Set in the picturesque village of Nant Peris at the foot of Snowdon, the festival has become known for fine music and for its warm and friendly atmosphere.
Festivities start on the Friday night with an open session in the cosy back room of the Vaynol Arms. During the day on Saturday there are workshops for fiddle for all abilities including a chance to play fiddle for the first time, a guitar workshop and for the more daring, an opportunity to try the crwth (a medieval bowed lyre), and the musical saw!
One of the high points of the festival is the open-mike concert in the pub at lunchtime, where musicians of all ages and abilities can be heard, followed by an all-afternoon session to which all are welcome. The more energetic can try clog dancing and for children there will be a story and song show from storyteller Cath Aran and fiddler and actor Idris Morris Jones. The evening concert takes place in Rehoboth chapel, conveniently situated nearly opposite the pub for the session afterwards!
Come, enjoy and be inspired! Rumney Folk Festival, Cardiff 5 September 2010 Now in its 2nd year, the festival is situated in a small village suburb of Cardiff, which plays host to a special lil` folk club in St. Augustine`s church hall every month.
Rumney Folk Club produces a candle lit atmosphere, a diverse range of musicians and a relaxed crowd, with varying tastes and appreciations regardless of the performers skill or age (a few people have made their first public performances here).
Rumney Folk Festival 08 was a triumph for the club; a well supported event (despite the weather) raising a lot of money for its chosen charity, the St. Augustine`s Parish Church Restoration Fund.
For 2009, the festival is set to be quite a hit, with the inclusion of a farmers market outside the hall and instrument workshops inside St Augustine`s Church; an 11th century building with some amazing acoustics.
Admission to the festival is a mere £5, including a full days entertainment, a licensed bar, bbq, demonstrations/displays, a raffle, merch. stall, church & bell tower open day, the farmers market and workshops. It`s a perfect way to end the summer in Rumney....heck, in Cardiff!
We`ll see you there! Saturday 5th September, doors 11:30AM. Contact details www.rumneyfolkclub.co.uk
