Snowdon Fiddle Festival
14 June 2008

Set in the tiny picturesque village of Nant Peris, at the foot of Snowdon, the festival has become known for its warm and friendly atmosphere. Festivities start on the Friday night with an open session in the cosy back room of the Vaynol Arms. During the day on Saturday there are workshops for fiddle and other instruments including a chance to try out the crwth (a medieval bowed lyre), clog dancing sessions and events for children including storytelling, climbing and puppet shows. Following the fun we had last year, there will be an open-mike concert in the pub at lunchtime, followed by an all-afternoon session to which all are welcome. The evening concert takes place in the beautiful atmospheric setting of the medieval church of St Peris, conveniently situated next to the pub for the session afterwards!

Artists who have played here include John Dipper, Maria Jonsson and Ian Carr, KilBride, Siân Phillips, Christine and Jo Cooper, SILD and the New Rope String Band, as well as numerous local fiddlers.

This year we step up the pace with Roots and Galoots from Pembrokeshire, who play lively Bluegrass music with close-harmony singing. We have a rare opportunity to hear a solo set from Stephen Rees, one of Wales’s best known fiddlers and a member of Crasdant and Ar Log. As is now traditional there will also be a short set from the organisers Cass Meurig, Idris Morris Jones and Nial Cain and contributions from Clwb Ffidil yr Wyddfa. Don’t miss it!

Tegeingl - the festival of hidden folk
August 15-16, 2008

We are organising a brand new Folk Festival in Mold on the 15th-16th August, 2008.

Tegeingl will be a festival of traditional performance arts.

Through the festival we hope to reflect the rich art and folk culture that has developed and survived here in the land of the Decangli across the centuries. Tegeingl / Flintshire’s location on the border with the ebb and flow of cultures has contributed to the rich and unique mixture of history, heritage and art found here.

The festival will be an open door that visitors form near and far can step through to experience the best of Welsh entertainment and culture. It will also provide a stage in Wales for artists from across the world. We will give prominence to folk dances, tunes and tales from our region, side by side with those from other cultures.

This year artists will include:
Mabon, Steve Tilston, Pigyn Clust, Les Barker, Martha Tilston, Crasdant, Jez Lowe, Siân James, Bella Hardy, Eileen McGann and David K, Jez Lowe, Groups from Poland and Ireland.
