The Big Experiment 2010
trac welcomes you to the third Big Experiment. This is Wales’ folk school; three exciting days of great atmosphere with the best tutors of the trad music world. It’s workshops; it’s songs and tunes; and it’s … fun!
Once again there will be strands for instrumentalists of all levels, for singers, and - *** New in 2010 *** - DANCE!
Arfon Gwilym is back so there’ll be more Plygain and other gems from the Welsh folk song tradition.
Foundation level musicians will again be in the capable hands of multi-instrumentalist Neil Browning.
Harpist Siân James and accordionist/fiddler Stephen Rees will each lead a group at intermediate level.
And special guest tutor this year is Karen Tweed, taking the advanced group
LET’S DANCE!
If you think “Jac y Do” and “Tŷ Bach Twt” are the pinnacle of Welsh dancing, this new addition is for you! Our tutors will be the highly experienced Bethan and Huw Roberts of Anglesey’s Dawnswyr Bro Cefni dance team.
Masterclasses and special workshops
Some of 2010’s one-off afternoon workshops will also be open to people not booked for the whole of the course. More details later, but these will include master classes on harp and fiddle; tasters on crwth and harp; and “What I Almost Play” sessions.
The Big Experiment will offer tuition, music, skills and good company to instrumentalists, singers and dancers. It isn’t for the complete beginner – particularly instrumentalists – but it will have something to offer everyone from the novice right up to the accomplished performer.
