Llandovery Folk Dancing

Llandovery Folk Dancing is an informal group of like-minded people who come together simply to enjoy themselves folk dancing. Llandovery Folk Dancing have continued the pattern of monthly dancing sessions since 1994 when the group was formed.

Dancing is usually of a British origin, (Welsh, English, or Scottish) with a variation of any of these on occasions, for example: Cornish or Manx. Further interest is gained, at times, with non- British styles, e.g Breton or an East European circle dance.

We meet regularly on the third Friday of the month (except August) with only an occasional variation. Dancing starts around 7.30pm, with the Dolau Bran sessions finishing at about 10.30pm and the larger events continuing until later.

Generally, most of us have been dancing for some years but are always ready to welcome beginners wanting to ‘have a go‘ and more experienced dancers bringing in new enthusiasm and interest. Feel free to come on your own, with a partner or with your family and feel assured of a warm welcome.

Llandysul Traditional Dance Club

The Traditional Dance Club meets at Llandysul Village Hall on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30

I call dances mainly in the English ceilidh style from around Britain but also include occasional dances from France, Ireland and America as well as dipping into the Historical repertoire with the help of my wife. I look at the dances in greater depth than normal looking at steps, figures and style with the dancers to try to show them how to dance well but without loosing the fun element.

I also hope to encourage new callers to have a go, sharing with them my experience and knowledge (I’ve been calling since 1974) and hoping to give the club an ongoing, varied and lively future. I currently call to recorded bands such as the Committee Band, The Bismarks etc but would welcome any musicians who would like to provide live music.

The village hall is situated near the village centre which is situated between on the hills between Montgomery and Newtown. We are a small and friendly club at the moment having only been going a few months so new members will be particularly welcome.

RUFF FOLK DANCE CLUB

We meet every Monday from 8.00pm until 10.00pm in the hall behind St Andrews Methodist Church, Caerphilly Rd, Birchgrove, Cardiff. If you want to do more dancing between ceilidhs why not come along and join us? Dancing is FUN and it’s good for you!!

The club developed from the Ruff ceilidhs to enable people to do more difficult dances from a wider range of sources (English, Welsh, Scottish and American).

However it’s not a workshop as such – we meet and teach dances ranging from Historical 17C British social dances to those from British contemporary dance writers plus some American contra and square dances. It’s a dance club which gives the opportunity for people who enjoy dancing to do more of it and (hopefully) get better at it.

We also organise workshops with visiting callers and musicians.
